About Us

Preserving tradition – this is the motto of our non-profit association, referring to the very special and nostalgic steam-hauled service on the route from Radebeul Ost via Moritzburg to Radeburg.

Since 1974, our non-profit association has been committed to preserving historic narrow-gauge railway vehicles along the Lößnitzgrundbahn. This makes us the longest-established heritage railway association in Saxony. We pay particular attention to the oldest vehicles from the early years of Saxony’s narrow-gauge railways, preserving them as important witnesses to railway history.

The popular Radebeul heritage train, styled after the Royal Saxon State Railways (K.Sächs.Sts.E.B.), is maintained by our members and regularly used for special excursions on the idyllic route between Radebeul and Radeburg.

Over the past decades, the vehicles of the heritage train have been meticulously reconstructed step by step and largely restored to their original condition at the time they entered service. This allows our passengers to experience the historic culture of travel around the turn of the 20th century in an authentic way.

Just as in the days of the Royal Saxon State Railroad, our volunteer staff travel in traditional uniforms aboard our historic train. Whether you choose an upholstered seat or a rustic wooden bench, every special excursion offers unique experiences for families, tourists, day-trippers and photography enthusiasts.

Would you like to enjoy a journey in the charming historic carriages of the Radebeul heritage train? Feel free to visit us on a day when the train is running and experience the culture of travel from the time of our great-grandparents!

In addition to our operational vehicles, we also look after an extensive collection of railway vehicles, which is on public display at the museum platform in Radebeul Ost.

Since 1997, we have been licensed as a railway undertaking and are able to operate our special trains independently. All tasks – from ticket sales and looking after passengers to working as engine drivers and firemen – are carried out by volunteers. The care, restoration and maintenance of the vehicles are likewise undertaken by our members in their free time and are financed through donations, grants and income from our heritage railway operations.

To preserve our historic vehicles and safeguard this unique cultural heritage, we will continue to depend on helping hands and financial support in the future.
